A BMI (Body Mass Index) calculator

A BMI (Body Mass Index) calculator is a simple tool that estimates body fat based on weight and height. It’s commonly used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.

BMI Formula
· Metric units:
BMI = weight (kg) / (height (m))²
· Imperial units:
BMI = (weight (lb) / (height (in))²) × 703

BMI Categories (for adults)
Category BMI Range
Underweight < 18.5
Normal weight 18.5 – 24.9
Overweight 25.0 – 29.9
Obesity (Class 1) 30.0 – 34.9
Obesity (Class 2) 35.0 – 39.9
Severe obesity ≥ 40.0

Note: BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnostic test. It doesn’t account for muscle mass, bone density, body composition, or distribution of fat.

Example Calculation
· Weight: 70 kg
· Height: 1.75 m
· BMI = 70 / (1.75)² = 70 / 3.0625 ≈ 22.9 → Normal weight
